Cooking up a Storm
Posted by Tiziana on May 11, 2011Waking up and feeling inspired! Inspired to cook up a storm and for weeks to come…… a rare occasion for me.
I love how cooking is second nature for some people. One would think that since I am Italian I should have some special gene to make cooking an easy, natural process for me ….. unfortunately that’s not the case. My mom is such a good cook that anything I make it simply does not compare to the flavors, texture, juiciness and wonderful room-filling aromas that come from her dishes.
Together with a bunch of great ladies, I visited the Texas Beef Council, where we learned about their mission to educate. We were given a delightful cooking class from Chef Chamberlain and had an opportunity to work in teams to make some of his wonderful recipes from the Healthy Beef Cook Book.
Cooking is one of these tasks that can get old really fast. Especially when dealing with all sorts of other demands of family life, yet it was great to be reminded that cooking is at the core of our health, and that we truly are what we eat.
We probably eat beef once a week in at our house, yet we often find ourselves bored with yet more chicken dish.. The demonstration and the great suggestions of Chef Chamberlain have me inspire to go back to experiment with one of favorite ingredients: ground beef. I used to cook with ground beef a lot, and for some reason I’ve stopped buying it all together. Yet there is so many things that one can make with it.
Given that I need to being in the mood for cooking next time it happens I might just as well make a few dishes and freeze them.. with ground beef I can make meat balls, sloppy joes, cheeseBBQ beef & oven fries, chiliand burgers just to name a few dishes. Hungry yet?
Chef Chamberlain reminded me of my mom and the pleasure she gets from serving her wonderful dishes to guests. Cooking is a way of giving, loving and nurturing ourselves and our families. It fills my heart with great pleasure when at the dinner table I hear my little girl moans of pleasure as she enjoys her food…. and then proceed “a leccarsi I baffi” to make sure she did not miss a bite.
PS: Leccarsi I baffi is an Italian expression. Guests will lick their mustache in a cat like behavior when food is delizioso
Happy Cooking
