Good night kisses from 1000 miles away

Like many newly married couples my wife and I don’t always see eye to eye when it come to raising our daughter, we are from different cultures and countries but usually we work it out.  We’re a pretty typical couple, we go off to work, come home, have dinner and either she or I are off to our daughter’s bedroom for the bedtime ritual.  There is the brushing of the teeth, flossing, face and hand washing, pajamas, bedtime story, a kiss and hopefully off to sweet dreams.

This is all about to change as I have recently taken a new position approximately 1000 miles away, ultimately the family to follow.  Yes, there will be face time on iphone and skyping on the computer but none of this will take the place of face to face, huggly, snuggly time.   We are both a little nervous about the changes, my wife because she will now be the sole caregiver for a precocious 3 years old little girl and I because I will not be there to physically protect my family and watch my daughter grow daily.  There will be weekend trips to and from home to see and be near the family but certainly nothing like the nightly good night kisses, and “I love you daddy see you in the morning” that like air I have grown dependent upon.  I will miss most the good night kisses, sadly with the passing of Steve Jobs (good night Steve); I don’t think there will be an app for this in the near future.

In the meantime I guess I have to just settle for my good night kisses from 1000 miles away.

Such a lovely, sweet post. My heart actually breaks a bit for you and your family. Being separated like that can be so challenging, yet can build an even stronger bond. Good luck to you all!
