Welcome to A Family Village from Catherine

Posted by Catherine on May 25, 2010

Welcome to "A Village Voice", our blog, where we hope to keep you entertained, informed and connected.  I wanted to share a bit about the philosophy behind the business, to better understand our motivation. It’s a little stuffy, but perhaps you can endure it.

Our contemporary, American society is very mobile.  It’s often we move away from our hometown, far from family and friends, and miles from our “village”.  When it comes time to begin a family, we are often left without the familiar support needed to raise a child.  Or maybe we didn’t move away, but our family and friends are unable or unwilling to help out with the rearing of our children; or perhaps we want to choose our “village” of support rather than rely on family and friends.  Whatever the case may be, it’s universal and understood that it takes a lot of work to raise a family and no one should have to do it alone.

Commonly, your “village” is constructed when your child reaches school-age and you meet families in the neighborhood with similar interests.  But what happens before school?  Where are these families the first months after your baby is born?  Sure, you may pass them on the streets as they’re out for a walk, or maybe exchange smiles at the park when your little one is just beginning to explore.   But wouldn’t it be great to meet these families when you are experiencing those early months of  “growing pains?”  Gather with a group of mommies to discuss all the same questions, quirks and quagmires that come with early parenting.  Borrow, swap, and trade ideas, clothes, recipes, stories, toys, tips, and more.   Let us help you find your village!
