What Took me so Long to try these New Shoes On
Posted by Tiziana on October 19, 2011 : 1 commentsWhile I had worked with a lot of men, I never dated a lot … commitment phobia indeed! But when I started dating my husband things were different, we actually enjoyed talking with each other…. Until we got married, had a child, and experienced financial pressures… sound familiar?? Ideal white picket fence was getting further and further away.
When talking to new friends about my less than perfect marriage all mentioned Dana. It was like that old saying “All the roads lead to Rome”. I was introduced to Dana by multiple acquaintances in different circles. New to the city, newly married I welcome the introduction and the possibility to preview her work on “how to talk to men”.
However, given that I had been working in the high-tech corporate world for a while and often found myself in environments where I was the only woman, I felt that I had already made talking to men as much of a science as possible. I have read many amazing books by experts on the topic of how man and woman relate, how we differ, best communication strategies, blah blah…. Exactly??!! Yet, I was curious to see what she could possibly teach me.
Well, she kept on sending me invitations to her FREE preview, I signed up for the sales incubator class instead. I was still not convinced that she would be able to teach me anything that I didn’t already know about how to communicate with men! 3 years later, I finally attended a preview of how to talk to man, then attended a weekend workshop and still seek out opportunities to be involved with her coaching on communication.
Now, I am a believer! I learned Dana's work is based on decades of research by Martin Sage, a specialist in business, communication and healthy systems. And that thousands of women all over the world have taken this training and are enjoying the benefits of greater harmony and collaboration with the men in their lives. What makes it so unique is that it is experiential. You feel it, breathe it, try it on, just like a pair of new shoes – fabulous! I knew most of the concept, I had observed them and seen them in actions time over time yet they were all just in my head and when it came to executing …. well… you know it just didn’t happen.
I would have never dreamed of my husband joining me on a 4 hours shopping spree, together with our toddler to find the perfect pair of jeans. He was attentive and noticed when I got discouraged and would swiftly say let’s go on try a different store, these model just don’t flatter your figure. Wow, that’s was a true testament of commitment to making me happy: 4 hours, 5 stores and over 30 pairs of jeans, we finally purchase one of the most dear item of clothing I own.
Dana is a master of Martin Sage communication principles and her coaching has truly changed my communication style at work, home and with my kiddo. I now recognized when I am performing in controlling ways, creating my own obstacles and provoking antagonistic feelings with my husband and/or colleagues.
More importantly I recognize the need to keep my spirits high by having lots of girlfriend time, so that when I am back together with my loved ones I can be at my best.
Now I wonder what, took me so long to try these new shoes on
